Rebuilding Babylon
The late president of modern day Iraq, Saddam Hussein(1937-2006), had large goals for his middle eastern country. One of Saddam's goals was to rebuild the ancient city of Babylon which would be the new center piece of his empire.
In 1982 Saddam started building his new palace on top of the ancient ruins, which had many archeologists in dismay due to the fact that many artifacts would be destroyed.
The original bricks of the ancient city had inscriptions glorifying the ancient Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar.(To learn more about Nebuchadnezzar see Daniel 1-4) On top of these ruins Saddam started to rebuild Babylon with new bricks that had the following inscriptions:
"This was built by Saddam Hussein, son of Nebuchadnezzar, to glorify Iraq"
another inscription read:
"In the era of Saddam Hussein, protector of Iraq, who rebuilt civilization and rebuilt Babylon."
Well, Saddam's goal was never realized, because he, like many other kings and rulers failed to take heed to Bible's warnings, injunctions, and prophecies. It is "righteousness that exalteth a nation."(Proverbs 14:34) and God himself sets up kings and removes them, even "the basest of men." (See Daniel 4:17)
God also had a prophecy about Babylon which Saddam Hussein either didn't know about or attempted to defy.
"And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees' excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.

It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there.
But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there. Isaiah 13:19-21 |

The United States war with Iraq stopped Saddam's plans to rebuild the ancient city. America, whether she knew it or not, had a role in the modern fulfillment of Bible prophecy.
